FRA Western Region Manager
The Western Region of FRA has a solid tradition of offering two regional meetings each year. A dedicated team of members and staff put together an event that usually includes 13-15 speakers on topics of value to our members.
This year, for the first time, the FRA will hold its National Fall Board Meeting in conjunction with the Western Region Fall meeting, serving our Meeting theme: Regional Solutions, Quality Connections: National Implications. Many of the National meeting attendees have not attended a Western Region meeting, and this direct exposure to the Western Region’s priorities—and solutions—will be enlightening.
Among the most valuable parts of FRA’s meetings are the networking opportunities. The opening day, Tuesday, September 27, will offer members options for planned recreational activities—opportunities to renew and build relationships and share transregional insights, leading into that afternoon’s governance meetings and that evening’s more formal Opening Reception.
On September 28, the day will consist of seven presentations surrounding the three Western Region sub-committees: Transportation, Environmental/Biomass, and Fiber Quality. The topics range from Sleep Apnea to Diversification in Wood Products. To round out the meeting portion of the day, we have two political speakers (Idaho Senator Bob Nonini and Jim Ellis with BIPAC) who will discuss the upcoming election and how the Presidential candidates could affect our industry in the coming years. Finally, we will end the day with a cruise on beautiful Lake Coeur d’Alene and dinner at the resort’s Hagadone Event Center.
September 29 will bring the members together for the Fall Board meeting, and the official meeting will close with three amazing speakers during the General Session:
Murray Hall/Murray Hall Consultants – Incentivizing Fiber Quality Across the World
Todd Morgan/University of Montana – Products Statistical Update
Pete Stewart/Forest2Market – North American Market Update
